NATIONAL DIABETIC LIMB PRESERVATION INITIATIVE FOR LONG-TERM CARE RESIDENTS
- PROGRAM PURPOSE : To help frontline staff recognize early warning signs and intervene before wounds develop.
THE PROBLEM : Approximately one-third of nursing home residents have diabetes. Many diabetic foot warning signs are visible days or even weeks before serious complications develop.
- THE CORE DIFFERENCE : Unlike traditional wound consulting programs that primarily focus on treating wounds after they occur, the National Diabetic Limb Preservation Initiative for Long-Term Care focuses on preventing diabetic foot ulcers, pressure injuries, infections, hospitalizations, and amputations through staff education, early recognition, frontline caregiver engagement, and timely intervention.
